Why local verification matters for AI agents

Company · Verification
The conventional wisdom is that AI belongs in the cloud: hosted models, hosted agents, hosted dashboards, hosted logs.
That may be fine for experimentation. It is not enough for trusting agent-authored code.
The model is not the proof
A capable AI agent can edit files, run commands, open a browser, and explain what it did. None of that makes the work correct by itself.
The proof is the surrounding evidence: the task, repo state, changed files, command output, screenshots, CI signals, deployment observations, and review decision. If that evidence is scattered across hosted tools and temporary transcripts, the team has to reconstruct trust by hand.
Local changes the review
Local verification means the receipt for an agent attempt is something you can inspect and keep, on your own machine, rather than a claim you have to take on trust.
- The attempt records what was requested and what the agent claimed.
- The checks record what ran, what passed, what failed, and what could not be checked.
- The evidence records the artifacts behind the decision.
- The result says verified, returned, or unchecked.
That makes review concrete. A failed attempt comes back with the failed check. An accepted attempt leaves a receipt. A missing proof source becomes visible instead of being covered by a confident summary.
Ownership matters more with agents
When a team starts changing prompts, models, tools, context, and retry rules, it needs history. Which setup produced the verified result? Which one cost less? Which one needed less human help? Which one created a regression?
You cannot answer those questions from vibes. You need receipts and held-out comparisons.
That is why Excellent runs beside the agent you already use. The agent does the work. Excellent verifies the work. The evidence stays inspectable.
